At Athens County Dog Shelter, we partner with the Athens community to provide shelter, care, and affection for abandoned, surrendered, or stray dogs until suitable homes are found. Our goal is to eliminate cruelty, neglect, and abuse of dogs in Athens County and surrounding areas, as well as educate community members on the correct treatment of dogs in accordance with Ohio laws.

Register now to join the fun! The Shelter Dog Strut: 5K-9 Run/Walk to benefit the Friends of the Shelter Dogs! The event will be held at the Eclipse Company Store.
Pet the Dog Day
Thursday April 30th, 12 pm - 2 pm
Pet the dog day is a day to come out and support local shelters.
There will be adoptable shelter pets on site to meet.
Delilah walks like a dream on the leash, and is able to go a whole twenty yards before stopping to look into the eyes of her handler. This she does with complete adoration. Her locomotion is severely stunted because every time she is fueled up (she just runs on regular love, not premium) her tank fails her and the love leaks out everywhere rendering her unable to move until it is refilled. Good thing love is free, otherwise she'd be a high-maintenance dog. While she's stalled out being refueled, Delilah smiles in bliss with soft eyes and a swishy tail. There’s no way you can meet this girl and not fall in love.
Delilah's previous owner says she is good with men, women and kids. Please note that in her enthusiasm to reciprocate love, she does jump up quite a bit, so small children may not be the best fit for her. Delilah is also housebroken, and crate-trained. She can be dog selective, so those with other furry children should bring them to the shelter for a meet-and-greet before deciding to take her home.
Delilah is a total love of a dog. She is super affectionate and seems to be perfectly content to be held and fussed over. She is, however, a young dog and will benefit from regular exercise. Delilah will be two-years-old on June 18th. We would love to give her the best birthday gift of all - a home and family of her very own.
To help prevent overpopulation, we are offering low-cost spay/neuter for your dog or puppy. Prices include rabies vaccination. Available to Athens County residents with proof of financial assistance.
